Leeds legends THE WEDDING PRESENT, led by DAVID GEDGE, have driven the scene since the early days of 80s UK indie rock with their razor-sharp guitar and raw emotional expression. Since their 1987 album 'GEORGE BEST', they've navigated a decade of relentless singles in the 90s and a self-reissue period. In recent years, they've refreshed their image as a band in constant motion, alternating between career-spanning projects and new material. Following the release of their career-spanning four-disc compilation '40' in 2025, their next offering is the six-track EP 'MAXI' – a direct successor to their 1996 driving-themed concept album 'MINI'. True to its title, the collection of tracks like "HOT WHEELS," themed around motorization, was reportedly written in a short burst by DAVID GEDGE in collaboration with RACHAEL. For longtime fans, this EP captures a moment where the directness of their early to mid-period work intersects with the band's current ensemble sound. Despite its title, "SCREAM, IF YOU WANT TO GO FASTER" features soft guitars and a laid-back groove; "HOT WHEELS," the closing track of the compilation '40', is a high-speed tune; and "SILVER SHADOW" leaves a lingering impression with its guitar-pop-esque cutting and undulating rhythms. The album features a lineup of songs that carve out solid dynamics with simple instrumentation. Noisy guitar textures coexist with accessible melodies, condensing THE WEDDING PRESENT's current strength as a rock band and their sharp songwriting into a compact format.
