The world of beautiful sound at the Versailles pitch (392Hz) François d'Agencourt (1684-1758) was a French composer, harpsichordist, and organist of the late Baroque period. Although overshadowed by contemporaries such as François Couperin and Jean-Philippe Rameau, his surviving keyboard works offer a fascinating glimpse into the brilliant French tradition of the early 18th century. Da Jancourt was born in Rouen in 1684, was organist at the Madeleine-en-la-Cité church in Paris from 1701 to 1706, and returned to Rouen to work on the massive Rouen Cathedral (then 128 meters high; it was enlarged to 151 meters in 1758) for 52 years, from 1706 until his death in 1758. He was the organist of the huge Rouen Cathedral (128 meters high at the time; it was enlarged to 151 meters in the 19th century), and in parallel, he was the organist of the abbey of Saint-Ouen, the church of Saint-Terblain, and the church of Saint-Jean, all in Rouen, where he held tenure for the rest of his life. During this period, he was appointed one of the four organists of the royal chapel in Paris in 1714, a position of great prestige. This collection of clavesins was written under the influence of François Couperin and features characterizations, nature, and genre paintings. It is performed by Marco Borghetto, winner of the 2023 Wanda Landowska Harpsichord Competition, using two replicas of the Emsch and Durken pieces. The booklet (12 pages in English and Italian) includes Borget's commentary on the performance and photos of the two harpsichords used.
