Roland Kirk, the jazz genius who discovered the art of playing multiple instruments simultaneously, has released a limited edition collection of previously unreleased live recordings he made at Ronnie Scott's in 1963! Roland Kirk is a one-of-a-kind individual known not only for his ability to play multiple instruments simultaneously, but also for his ability to play different melodies on each, and his special circular breathing technique that allows him to play for long periods of time without breathing. In addition, he was a superb instrumentalist and an excellent melody maker, especially on the tenor saxophone, where his wonderful tone proved him to be a first-rate player in the line of tenor giants such as Hawkins, Rollins, and Coltrane. Kirk's live performance at Ronnie Scott's, a long-established jazz club in London, in 1963 with a quartet including himself on piano, bass, and drums, will be released as a Record Store Day LP.The album, titled "Live at Ronnie Scotts 1963," contains four songs, a mixture of original material and standard numbers, including Kirk's performance of Duke Ellington's "Angelica (feat. John Coltrane)," the only recording of the song in existence. The band members also played the piano. The band members, Stan Tracy on piano, Malcolm Cecil on bass, and Ronnie Stephenson on drums, were all leading British jazz musicians of the time. Kirk has been the most popular artist among the club's performers to date. The usually calm Stan Tracy had a big smile on his face during the set, which consumed as much energy as possible, and we hope you will enjoy it from the recordings.
