John Glacier makes his debut on PLZ Make It Ruins, the label run by Vegyn, who is also a collaborator with Frank Ocean. The enigmatic artist says she chose her name because it is "as cold as ice". Her punky, poetic verses and sharp electronic pop songs are all intuitive and subtle at the same time. This debut album, which she co-produced with label owner Vegyn, is what she calls a "selfish" record, documenting "how I feel, what I'm going through, and how I want to live my life. This album is a document of her year-long process of healing and evolution. Each song is a reflection of a moment captured in a fleeting moment, revealing a different facet of John Glacier.Each song creates a completely different space, but the common theme of the album is reflection and processing, sort of like an ice-breaker." The album's tracks include "If Anything," which is a must-have for lovers of Baths and Avalanches alike; "Cryptomnesia," with its cool, punkish, lo-fi beat and clear, detailed electronics; and "Trelawny," with its floating track and ephemeral "I want to party all night long" hook. The hook of "Trelawny Waters" echoes with the fragile sound of "I want to party all night long" over a floating track.
