MIKE and Earl, two leading figures in the East and West Coast indie hip-hop scenes, have released a collaborative project with the New York collective SURFGANG! This release, *POMPEII//UTILITY*, brings together MIKE and Earl—two up-and-coming rappers active in the East and West Coast scenes, respectively—under the SURFGANG aesthetic. Structured as a double album split between MIKE’s side and Earl’s side, the project unfolds with a rotating cast of diverse artists and characters from the same creative community. Featuring guest appearances by Jadasea, AnysiaKym, Niontay, Na-KelSmith, and LeradoKhalil, the album’s atmosphere is shaped by gritty, dynamic beats crafted by SURFGANG’s production team (Harrison, EvilGiane, Elipropperr, FleaDiamonds, and others). SURFGANG is one of the most talked-about collectives today, having previously collaborated on projects by BabyKeem, Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, and Playboi Carti. Released shortly after MIKE’s *Showbiz!* and Earl’s *Live, Laugh, Love* in 2025, this album serves as a “triumphant return” that reflects on the duo’s relationship spanning over a decade. Unlike collaborations that often breed competition and comparison through confrontation, this album presents a grounded, communal approach centered on sharing a sense of care, joy, loss, the creative process, and a sense of responsibility toward something greater than oneself. This release is a joint effort by three labels: 10k, TanCressida, and SurfGangRecords.
