The newest release "Music for 17 Musicians", named after Steve Reich's masterpiece "Music for 18 Musicians" (1978), is now available! This "ensemble work of the future" resonates across the boundaries of experimental music, contemporary music, jazz, and electronica. Jameszoo is a Dutch contemporary ensemble that blends electronic music and jazz to create unique works, The album is a collaboration with Dutch contemporary ensemble Asko_Schonberg. The title is a reference to Steve Reich's masterpiece "Music for 18 Musicians" released on ECM in 1978. This work began with the bold question of "separating the composer and performer from the music. The key was an automatic piano that, using MIDI and algorithms, spun out sounds based on rules designed by the Markov model and LSTM, as if it were an improvised human performance, making "autonomous" decisions.This is not mere technological experimentation, but music based on performance data from musicians such as Kit Downes, Matthew Bourne, and Niels Broos, and it is both intelligent and emotionally rich. Jameszoo's own band members and HIIIT percussionist Frank Wienk also participate in the project, creating a multi-layered soundscape that freely intersects electronic and live sounds. Developing the themes presented in "Blind" (2022) and sublimating them into a more open musical experience, this album is an "ensemble work of the future" that resonates across the boundaries of experimental music, contemporary music, jazz, and electronica.
