Floating Points

Description:

Red Marquee to headline Fuji Rock Festival '24! Top producer Floating Points' long-awaited latest album! Dan Snaith, known for his work under the names Caribou and Daphni, Utada Hikaru, and others will participate! Known as one of the most intelligent people in the electronic music scene, he is also an avid record collector and DJ who has been featured alongside artists such as the Four Tet, Bonobo, and Caribou. Sam Shepard, aka Floating Points, who has recently collaborated with free jazz legend Pharaoh Sanders and the London Symphony Orchestra on "Promises" and co-produced Utada Hikaru's album "BAD Mode," will release his latest album "Cascade" in 2024 on the Ninja Tune label. A classically trained artist who spent his childhood in Manchester and earned a doctorate in neuroscience at university, Floating Points, as his artist name suggests, freely crosses genres and continues to experiment in a variety of ways. Most recently, he produced his first ballet, "Mere Mortals," in collaboration with the San Francisco Ballet, which was praised for its approach of combining symphonic orchestra and electronic music. Promises, which beautifully weaves together the beautiful sounds and intricate drum patterns of modular synthesizers, the saxophone of Pharaoh Sanders, and the London Symphony Orchestra into one masterful piece, received the highest score review of 2021 from Pitchfork in the US, and was named Album of the Year by Mojo magazine and Time It was named Album of the Year by Mojo Magazine and Time Magazine, and Resident Advisor called it "one of the greatest modern jazz albums of all time" and nominated for a Mercury Prize. The success of those projects, which were also important turning points in his career, might have seemed to suggest that he was leaving the dance music scene. However, he found himself immersed in his ballet scores during the day, while at night he craved the frenzy of the dance floor and the unbridled pace of pulsating electronic music. Cascade" begins as a follow-up to "Crush," and is packed with sounds for the dance floor experience of Floating Pointe's sound: Buchla's synthesizer-generated rhythms explode and glitchy melodies shake the body. This is echoed in the colorful artwork by Akiko Nakayama, which captures the movement of flowing liquid. The title of the album, which means "cascading stream," is also a perfect description of the sound of this album, which invites listeners to lose themselves in the luxurious interstices of the sound and be transported to an exciting utopia they have never experienced before. This work builds on the fascination with the variety of electronic music that he encountered during his youth in Manchester, a music that expands the listener's mind and purifies the emotions. Although a sequel to "Crush," Floating Points' sound has evolved to a higher level, exploring a wider range of sounds and grooves on each longer track than its predecessor. Nearly a decade after his debut album Elaenia, composer Sam Shepard has mastered the art of seamlessly incorporating non-club music experimentation into his dance floor music. I'm always looking for a challenge," he says, "so where does this album fit in the ever-expanding creative possibilities? I'm always looking to keep things moving, to do my best at things that excite me," he said. Whether it's creating a ballet piece with a 100-piece orchestra or sitting alone at my laptop," he explains with a smile. In terms of electronic music innovation and instinctive track making, Floating Points will continue to explore without perpetual complacency. The domestic CD release will include an additional bonus track, "Ocotillo (Ambient Mix)," and will be accompanied by an explanatory booklet. Universal Sparkle Vinyl) will also be released. In addition, the domestic CD and the LP with Japanese obi will also be available as a set with a T-shirt.
