Limited release as a set of two red-gold color records (140g) Limited red-gold color vinyl release of "The Ninth" from the live recording of the series of concerts held at the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna from April 29 to May 17, 2002. Rattle used the Bärenreiter edition of the score here, with the original two-orchestra instrumentation, and the arrangement of violins in a double-winged arrangement, which is a stylistic requirement of the era, but with some exciting devices throughout. In No. 9 in particular, perhaps to avoid traditional singing, he invited his former colleagues, the City of Birmingham Symphony Chorus, with whom he had collaborated on various modern and contemporary works, and succeeded in creating a free and expressive chorus that sometimes sounded wildly wild. The Vienna Philharmonic responded skillfully to Rattle's demands, and the soloists and even the tutti did not lose their originality, giving a performance that was both sharp and rich.
