Canadian contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux will join the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo and its artistic and musical director, Kazuki Yamada, to perform a combination of two sumptuous, escapist, French traditional linked songs, Berlioz's "Summer Nights" and Ravel's "Scheherazade," in a musical and poetic interpretation. Together with Kazuki Yamada, she has combined two gorgeous and escapist French traditional serial songs, Berlioz's "Summer Nights" and Ravel's "Scheherazade," for a musical and poetic interpretation. And complementing these musically and thematically are the lesser-heard "Persian Songs" by another great French composer, Saint-Saëns, dating from 1870 and chronologically centered between Berlioz (1841) and Ravel (1904). They are based on poems by Armand Renaud, one of the poets who drew inspiration from Théophile Gautier, the literary source for Berlioz's "Summer Nights" When Marie-Nicole Lemieux sang "Summer Nights" in Paris in 2019, "the transition from portrait to narration Lemieux's sense of balance in the transition was worthy of a great lover of song.'From the depths of the lower register to the shimmering high notes, she has a supple trajectory throughout the work, phrasing with amplitude and never missing an opportunity to paint words,' wrote Backtrack, a London-based international online music magazine. It added, 'Her diction is so precise in it's ability to emphasize certain words to highlight key points in the text. What was impressive was the incredible range of coloration in her voice.
