Description:
A genuine musical metaphor for the fall of Europe, World War I, both apotheosis and apocalypse. Also visible are the names of Schubert, Liszt, Mahler, and Kreisler, all filled with a kind of nostalgia that belongs only to this mythical city... Aurelien Pontier's "Joyful Apocalypse" is hard to describe in Japanese. Aurélien Pontier's "Joyful Apocalypse" is a title that is hard to describe in Japanese, but perhaps there is no better word to describe the atmosphere of Vienna at the beginning of the 20th century in all its glory. The album opens with the familiar melody of "Die Fledermaus" from the very beginning. Of course, since this is Grunfeldt's arrangement, this is not a simple matter. The piano keys are used from one end to the other in a parade of superb technique. Yes, that's right. This album is an excellent one that can be recommended to "piano transcription" enthusiasts. The list of tracks also includes Godowsky and Schulze-Evler, which will make even those in that line of music happy.Waltzes occupy most of the album, and one can almost picture people dancing like they are possessed by something. The fact that Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky are listed among the composers may indicate that the frenzy spread to people living outside of Vienna as well. Schubert's works from the early 19th century are the grandfather of the waltz. The "Kupelwieser Waltz" was transcribed by Richard Strauss. The album is a frenzy, interspersed with Mahler's Adagietto, which represents not only Vienna but also "decadence," and Schoenberg's slightly more subdued piece, and ending with Ravel's "La Valse". Aurélien Ponthier's ability to play this varied album all the way through is astonishing. Warner Music Japan
