The Alban Berg Quartet's respect for the Viennese Romantic tradition, a truly ideal collection of Schubert's masterpieces The Alban Berg Quartet was founded in 1970 by Günter Pichler, concertmaster of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. After studying with the LaSalle Quartet, the quartet made its debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus in 1971, with the aim of respecting the Viennese musical tradition and to demonstrate the players' commitment to the music of the 20th century, and with the permission of Alban Berg's widow to use the name "Alban Berg Quartet", The quartet quickly expanded internationally, and their extensive recordings attest to the accomplishments of an ensemble that celebrates both Viennese tradition and innovative musical spirit. Their performances of Schubert are all masterpieces, with the four members playing in a three-dimensional style on equal footing while maintaining their Viennese heritage, and all of them playing the delicate beauty of melody with precision and expression.
