Since their debut in 1997, the band has consistently released albums, releasing a best-of album in 2003 to celebrate their 20th anniversary, and in 2016, they released "Atomic," a soundtrack inspired by their visit to Hiroshima, and in the same year, they contributed a song to the soundtrack of the documentary "Before the Flood" starring Leonardo DiCaprio. For this album, the band has re-teamed with their old friend Dave Fridman, a member of Mercury Rev and producer of Mogwai's 1999 masterpiece "Come On Die Young". The recording was done at Fridman's Tarbox Road Studios in New York. The single "Coolverine," which was released along with the album announcement, begins with silence and builds to a thunderous roar that is sure to break your tear ducts.The music is emotional and beautiful, typical of Mogwai.
