Turina's Piano Trio Surprises with its Musical Richness After moving from his hometown of Seville to Paris, Turina, with the encouragement of his countryman Albéniz, discovered for himself a truly Spanish idiom. The Piano Trio in F major, one of Turina's early masterpieces, was lost for many years and was only rediscovered in 1999. The Trio, which Turina confidently named No. 1, was written 22 years after the first F-major Trio, and combines rich melodic material with elaborate techniques and effective chromatic soldiers. The second is a wonderful listening experience, with great richness of musical ideas and varied progressions. The late "Silencio," written three years after the end of the Spanish Civil War, in which about 500,000 people were killed, depicts a circular routine of sunrise, noon, and dusk. The work depicts a circle of daily life: sunrise, noon, and dusk. Performers Deborah Gonsalves and Bertolt Hamburger are colleagues in Spain's Galicia Symphony Orchestra, and as the duo Orphelion they have performed throughout Europe, India, Japan, and South America.Pianist Daniel Del Pino is an internationally acclaimed Spanish pianist who brings stimulation here with his sometimes powerful percussion. The booklet (12 pages in English and Spanish) includes commentary by conductor and composer José Ramón Encinal.
