This is the first collection of Stradella's complete Sinfonia for Violin and Passing Bass recorded. Stradella has rapidly gained recognition and popularity in recent years. The work is said to be characterized by its brilliant use of counterpoint. Stradella gave equal value to the violin and the bass part, entrusting the bass part with more than the usual harmonic support. In fact, the melody is often developed by both instruments, taking the form of a "concerto" in which the bass and violin are in constant dialogue back and forth. The few remaining instrumental pieces from his tumultuous life are beautifully performed.
