The latest volume in the French Piano School Series! Magda Taliaferro has left her mark on France and Brazil! The Brazilian-born French pianist Magda Taliaferro (1893-1986) is featured in APR's signature "French Piano School" series, which has earned a strong following among historical fans for its rare recordings and high-quality reissues! She studied at the Paris Conservatory under Antonin Marmontel and Alfred Cortot, graduating with first prize. His friendship with Reinaldo Arn, with whom he often conducted accompaniment, is known to have had a very significant influence on his career, leading to the composition of the "Piano Concerto," which was later dedicated to Taliaferro. Evidence of the friendship between Taliaferro and Arn can be heard in their collaboration on Mozart's "Coronation" and Arn's "Piano Concerto," both recorded here. As well as recordings of solo works and concertos, mainly French music, which were well established (Saint-Saens' "Egypt" is conducted by Fournet!). Also of note is a recording of a collaboration with Denise Soriano (1916-2006), a female violinist from Cairo who studied at the Paris Conservatory.Of particular interest is the inclusion of a retaken recording of Fauré's "Violin Sonata No. 1," especially the first movement: Allegro molto, which was re-recorded a few months later for unknown reasons and replaced by an existing recording on a later pressing. A number of masterful performances from the SP record era by Magda Taliaferro, a famous lady who left a significant mark on France and Brazil. The sound quality improvement by Ward Marston's remastering is also a point not to be missed. Tokyo M-Plus
