Rare recordings of two pianists in the Clara Schumann tradition are reissued!
APR is proud to reissue these extremely rare recordings by two pianists who carried on the tradition of Clara Schumann. The recordings they left behind are very few in existence, and this is the first reissue of all the recordings discovered to date (there is an alternate take of Adela Wahn's "The Clown").
Fanny Davis, one of the few pianists who was a student of Clara's whose recordings have survived, is said to have remained faithful to Clara's interpretations throughout her life. Davis's playing best conveys the style of Clara's playing. Adela Vern, on the other hand, was a pianist whose talent was recognized by Clara and who later studied with Clara's daughter, Marie Schumann. Although her name is almost unknown due to the paucity of recordings and documents, she was the soloist in the premiere of Brahms' "Piano Concerto No. 2" at the Proms, and was one of the first to introduce Franck's "Symphonic Variations" to England.This is a recording that faithfully conveys Clara's technique and interpretation, and has been restored by APR, which has an established reputation for reissuing such recordings, making it a disc of extremely high documentary value.
