Long-awaited first full-length album by Dora Morelenbaum, also known as a member of Barra Desejo. Produced by Ana Frango Eletrico! Dora Morelenbaum was born the daughter of cellist Jaquith Morelenbaum and singer Paula Morelenbaum, who are known for their participation in works by Caetano Veloso and Ryuichi Sakamoto. In 2021, she released her first solo EP, "Vento de Beirada" (2021). Co-produced with Ana Frango Eletrico, Lucas Nunes, and Guillermi Lirio, the EP certainly showed that she was an exceptional singer and songwriter rooted in the Brazilian tradition. The following year, she formed Barra Desejo with Zee Ibarraha, Julia Mestri, and Lucas Nunes. Their first album, "SIM, SIM, SIM" (2022), was a sensation not only in Brazil but around the world, and was dubbed "the second coming of Tropicália. While Julia Mestri and Zee Ibarraja, also members of Barra, have released solo albums, Dora has not had an album released until now, but in 2024, her long-awaited first solo album "Pique" will finally be released. Co-produced by Ana Frango Eletrico, as in "Vento de Beirada," the album features her father Jaquith Morelenbaum and mother Paula Morelenbaum on the chorus and arrangements. Other guests included a splendid lineup from the Barra side of the family, such as Julia Mestri, Ze Ibarraja, and Lucas Nunes, as well as Guillermi Lirio, Ton Veloso, and others. Compared to "Vento de Beirada," which was based on slow ballads, the sound of "Pique" has shifted to a more vibrant mix of disco, MPB, funk, jazz, and soul. The album offers a wide variety of tastes, such as the inner funk of "Venha Comigo," the mellow "Essa Confusão" with its beautiful string arrangement, and the jazz funk of "VW Blue" with its lively electric piano. This shift to a funkier sound probably reflects the aesthetic of Ana Frango Eletrico, who co-produced the album.However, it is somewhat introspective rather than physical, and one can fully enjoy the "enveloping and ethereal mood" that is a major attraction of Dora's music. Ana Frango Eletrico's cutting-edge production and Dora's artistry combine to create a truly unique masterpiece that represents contemporary MPB. A truly unique masterpiece representing contemporary MPB has been born.
