Description:
An intimate conversation with Schubert that transcends time. The first collection of Schubert piano trios presented by the Morel brothers. This collection of Schubert piano trios features cellist Edgar Morel—who has earned acclaim worldwide—along with his brothers, violinist David Morel and pianist Jérémie Morel. “For us as brothers, performing Schubert together means more than simply playing music. It is an intimate conversation that transcends time and memory, a dialogue in hushed tones… It is as if Schubert’s voice joins us, telling us a story—the story of life, with all its joys and all its transience.” Schubert’s two piano trios—No. 1 in B-flat major and No. 2 in E-flat major—are both large-scale works. Written approximately one year before the composer’s untimely death in 1828, these pieces possess a distinctive ambivalence in their mood and expression. They simultaneously affirm life while remaining acutely attuned to the fleeting nature of human existence. This recording marks the Morrow Brothers’ debut as a piano trio. That said, Edgar has established a solid reputation as a soloist with Erato, and their sister, the violinist Raphaël, joined the trio on the 2020 album *AFamilyAffair*, which features *Dvořák: Five Bagatelles, Op. 47* and *Korngold: Suite, Op. 2*. *Gramophone* magazine asserted, “It would be difficult to find anything that surpasses this particular *Family Affair* in terms of pure emotion captured in a musical production.” This new two-CD set concludes with arrangements for piano trio of some of Schubert’s most beloved songs (arranged by the Morrow brothers or Dmitri Sudoplatov). “Schubert has always been with us,” the Morrow brothers write. “By recording his two Piano Trios, *Der Hirt auf dem Felsen*, and some of his most moving songs, we feel we are returning to an essential source.” *Import CDs distributed by Warner Music Japan include Japanese liner notes and a jacket sleeve. The Japanese liner notes feature a Japanese translation of the Morrow Brothers’ comments and an original essay by Tomohira Hori. Warner Music Japan
