Description:
The fiercely rhythmic and captivating chamber orchestra Delirium Musicum, led by violinist Etienne Gala, explores the macabre, the bizarre, and the unique in this collection of "curiosities".
This album is a collection of "curiosities" that explores the macabre, the bizarre, and the unique. The collection includes well-known classics such as Schubert's "The Mad King," Bernard Herrmann's "Psycho," and Saint-Saens' "Dance of Death," as well as new discoveries such as Lee Ji-su's arrangement of the Korean folk song "Jindo Arirang" and Gabriella Smith's "The Cactus and Yucca Shrubbery.
Etienne Gala said the following: "Each piece on this album is a unique experience.
"This album is a beautiful patchwork of short pieces, each one completely different from the next. It is like an advent calendar for the listener, each piece opening a new "window" into its own musical universe.
I have a rich background, many interests, and boundless curiosity, and I take pleasure in gathering elements from different places and different cultural backgrounds and bringing them together. The album includes classical classics, film music such as "Psycho," small pieces by Philip Glass, and little curiosities written just for us, bridging classical music with the diverse audiences of today.
There is a mischievous DNA running through both Delirium Musicum and The Room of Wonders that transcends borders and delivers the excitement that passion and seriousness can generate. This is an engrossing concert where everyone will find "something they know," "something they love," and "something that will pique their curiosity."
Etienne Gala & Delirium Musicum
Los Angeles-based violinist Etienne Gala and Delirium Musicum, a group of 21 musicians from nine countries on three continents, are inspired by Los Angeles' bustling art mosaic, applying dazzling creativity and boundless excitement to their performances. Their performances are becoming increasingly well known to a wider audience. The artistic excellence and leadership of their young generation of musicians allows the small size of this ensemble to intimately connect and engage with listeners through dedicated performances that inspire intense excitement and ecstasy. The spontaneity that results from this approach and the juxtaposition of music from all eras creates a meaningful human experience. The creative and candid interpretations of the old masters and their collaborations with contemporary composers bring a unique voice to the group, creating a dialogue about new ways to explore music that is relevant to life, regardless of time period, from baroque to contemporary music.
