Andrew von Oen is a charismatic piano virtuoso who began playing piano at the age of five, performing with an orchestra at the age of ten, and at the age of seventeen with the Los Angeles Philharmonic conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. At the age of 17, he performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. He has also performed with the Philadelphia Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, New Mexico Symphony, St. Louis Symphony, Seattle Symphony, Singapore Symphony, and others. At the Juilliard School, he studied with Herbert Stessin and Jerome Lowenthal, and was also taught by Alfred Brendel and Leon Fleischer. Since 2016, he has lived and performed in New York and Paris. Of the album "Angels and Demons," pianist Owen says, "I have long envisioned a recital program devoted to the conflicting themes of heaven and hell, the spiritual and the physical, the saint and the sinner.Combining pieces conceived for solo keyboard with arrangements from the orchestral, operatic, and choral repertoire, the program follows the "angelic" route of Bach (including arrangements by Busoni), Debussy, Faure, and Messiaen, and the "devilish" route of Liszt, Saint-Saens, and MacDowell. The music follows the "devilish" route of Liszt, Saint-Saëns, and McDowell. Leading the listener on a journey into the darkest corners of human emotion while simultaneously leading them to ecstasy and catharsis proves to be a confident and inspiring guide. It is a unique concept album that not only showcases his perfection and effortless technique, but also the freedom and emotional richness he so beautifully expresses without drowning in the romantic atmosphere of the piece.
