The Lovin' Spoonful

Description:

After City Pop, it’s time for Good Time Music! A sense of euphoria and DIY playfulness that turns everyday life into magic. This box set is all you need to experience the full scope of the Lovin’ Spoonful, the originators of this sound! By Tatsuya StyleBook The smash hit “Summer in the City” (No. 1 in the U.S.) CHERRYRED is releasing a highly anticipated 7-CD box set featuring all recordings released by the Greenwich Village-based folk-rock group The Lovin’ Spoonful—featuring John Sebastian, famous among 1960s rock fans for “Daydream” and “Do You Believe in Magic?”—from 1965 to 1969 on KamaSutra! Featuring a complete collection of early stereo and mono recordings (released on CD for the first time), soundtracks, solo works, outtakes, and instrumentals! This definitive 7-CD box set, containing a total of 170 tracks, comprehensively covers all recordings left behind by the Greenwich Village-born folk-rock group Lovin’ Spoonful during the 1960s. It includes the complete catalog of their first four studio albums released between 1965 and 1967—*Do You Believe in Magic?*, *Daydream*, *Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful*, and *Everything Playing*—in both mono and stereo mixes. The debut single included here, “Do You Believe in Magic?”, peaked at No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. Paul McCartney has stated that he drew inspiration from “Daydream” when writing “Good Day Sunshine,” and that he completed the song with John Sebastian’s personal support—a testament to the Lovin’ Spoonful’s immense influence on their contemporaries. This collection also includes the soundtracks to Woody Allen’s comedy films *What’s Up, Tiger Lily?* (1966) and *You’re a Big Boy Now* (1967), for which the Lovin’ Spoonful composed the music. These include instrumental tracks and alternate takes not found on the original albums, and this box set allows listeners to experience them all together in stereo mixes. A major appeal of this collection is its structure, which allows listeners to fully appreciate the band’s creativity throughout the 1960s from both their studio work and their film music. It also includes their final album, *Revelation: Revolution '69*, led by Joe Butler, as well as the solo album *Alive and Well in Argentina* by original guitarist Zal Yanovsky. Furthermore, it includes rare bonus tracks such as “Alley Oop”—which was left off the debut album sessions—as well as demos, alternate versions, and instrumentals. Mastering was handled by renowned producer Alec Palau, a Grammy Award nominee. In terms of content, sound quality, and historical value, this is truly the definitive box set that fully captures the appeal of the Lovin’ Spoonful.
