A musician's musician" - it must be a great pleasure for any musician to be called a "musician's musician. And that is because he or she has reached the level of "virtuoso" or "maestro," in other words, a "maestro" as a musician. Alan Holdsworth is one of the few musicians and guitarists who have reached the level of such a "maestro. His numerous albums are now available on hybrid SACD!
I have not yet reached the realm of my ability to interpret, play, and create works by the jazz artists who have influenced me... To be honest, I think that's a bit of a stretch. Finally, a few years later, Alan produced an album of jazz music covers.
The band consists of pianist Gordon Beck, renowned for his work with alto saxophone virtuoso Phil Woods, technical bassist Gary Wills, who plays with Tribal Tech, and drummer Kirk Coventon.
Beginning with "Countdown," from John Coltrane's historic masterpiece "Giant Steps," the band followed with Django Reinhardt's "Clouds," a tender ballad on syntax and electric guitar. While interspersing "Nan to Soon," the modern title number in suite form from the pen of Gordon Beck, the band takes the souls of other famous jazz artists such as Joe Henderson and Bill Evans and expresses them in their own style. This is a gem that proves Holdsworth's love of jazz.
