The LA metal movement emerged in the 1980s, and Stryper was one of the bands that dominated the Christian metal style. Stryper's debut album, "Soldiers Under Command," released in August 1985, was a long seller and won a gold disc, although it did not chart well in the U.S., peaking at No. 84 on the U.S. album chart.
