Description:
Ken Takaseki & Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra's 4th Bruckner project! The latest Bruckner work by the two musicians, following the previous "No. 4", is a live performance of Bruckner's subscription concert on September 6, 2024. This is a remarkable work that marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of Bruckner performance in Japan! The joint project with Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra, Brain, and Tower Records has so far released a total of four titles, including Mahler: Symphony No. 9, which was released in December 2023. The first Bruckner release, No. 8, was in March 2021, the second, No. 5, in January 2022, and the last, No. 4, in August 2024, the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth. Mr. Takaseki chooses his editions based on the latest research, and in this series, too, he has chosen to use the latest "Korstvedt revision" for the previous No. 4, based on the second draft (second draft (1878/80), the new Bruckner Complete Edition Korstvedt revision (2018)), which is a departure from the conventional Bruckner performance in the older generation. The performance has been a departure from the traditional Bruckner performances of the previous generation. In this second performance of Bruckner No. 8, the "New Complete Works Edition Hawkshaw Revision," which reflects the latest research results on the so-called "original" first draft before major revisions after the release of the orthodox second draft, which is now widely used, is a highlight in the history of Bruckner performances in Japan so far. The first draft itself has been performed fairly infrequently. The first manuscript itself is performed quite infrequently, and recordings of it are extremely rare compared to those of the second manuscripts by Inbal, Gielen, and others, so opportunities to come into contact with it are rare. In fact, this concert attracted a great deal of attention among Bruckner lovers. The first draft, which has the same basic structure but is almost a different piece of music, has recently been reevaluated, and its release as a sound source is sure to be welcomed by many lovers of Bruckner. The recording was made by Brain Corporation, a Hiroshima-based company with an established reputation for recording. Since the company has abundant experience in recording live performances (Bruckner: Symphonies No. 4 and No. 5, No. 7, and No. 8 with Tatsuya Shimono and the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra have also been released under the same effort), the excellent sound quality of this recording is also a pleasure to listen to. <From the liner notes This is a live recording of the Tokyo City Philharmonic's 372nd subscription concert held on September 6, 2024.This performance uses the "First Draft, New Complete Works Edition Hawkshaw Revision," which differs from the August 2020 version of No. 8 (second draft). The first draft, which was rejected by a trusted conductor and once disappeared, has been reevaluated as music that reflects the original intention, and this performance was a rare opportunity to experience it in the latest revised version. Furthermore, this performance is a monumental performance that combines the results of 10 years of collaboration with Takaseki, four years of deepening since the second draft of No. 8, and the spirit of the late Honorary Conductor Taijiro Iimori, who instilled the style of Bruckner performance in the Tokyo City Philharmonic Orchestra and captivated the audience with two symphonies in April 2023, the last performance in his lifetime.
