In Japan, the series began airing in April 1967. It gained immense popularity in Japan, rivaling its success in the U.S., thanks to its iconic theme song and opening sequence—which remain legendary in TV drama history—the ensemble cast of distinctive actors, and the Emmy Award-winning, meticulously crafted and thrilling scripts. Then, in 1996, Tom Cruise, a die-hard fan of "Mission: Impossible," produced and starred in a film adaptation. It became a massive hit, spawning the "Mission: Impossible" and "M:I-2" series, and the original TV series was once again thrust into the spotlight. Furthermore, in 2006, marking the 40th anniversary of the TV series, the third film in the series, "M:I:III," was released.
