The 4CD box set of the live concert of the European tour on February 27th and 28th, 1971 is now available in Japan on Disk Union! This is a 4CD boxed set of the live performance of the band, which was recorded at the Henny Onstad Art Center near Oslo, Norway, on February 27 and 28, 1971. This is a 4CD clamshell box set of the entire concert from the band's two-night European tour on February 27 and 28, 1971 at the Hennie Onstad Art Center near Oslo, Norway! The concerts were part of an art exhibition by the Boyle Family, a British art group. It was special in that a film of its member, Mark Boyle, was projected during the soft machine performance. More importantly, the tapes on which both concerts were recorded have been preserved, and they are in excellent shape. They are wonderful live recordings that offer a glimpse of how the sound changed dramatically from one night to the next.This is the first time that two consecutive nights of live recordings by Soft Machine's most classic quartet have been released in their entirety, although two sets from the second night (February 28, 1971) have been previously released. The first night (February 27, 1971) had been completely unreleased until now. The first night (February 27, 1971) has never been released before, and the sound balance between the instruments on the original tape has been slightly improved, so that it sounds as if the band is playing right in front of you. In the words of the late Michael King, who released Sunday concert on his own Reel Recordings label in 2009, "This is clearly the best recording of a classical soft machine quartet ever made on tape. This is truly a rare and important live recording for Soft Machine fans and Canterbury fans alike.
