Anarcho-punk/metal crust based anarcho-doom band from Tokyo, formed in 2004, The band started out as an authentic UK crust/noisecore style band, but transformed into a darker and heavier sound with a doom/sludge approach. After a three-year hiatus, the band resumed its activities in 2020. This album contains only the songs that have been recorded since the restart, and was produced by the engineer Tomofumi Otsuka (SOLVENT COBALT), a close friend of ZENOCIDE from the ISTERISMO days, in order to eliminate external factors as much as possible and produce the album only with people who deeply understand the band and ZENOCIDE's musicality. The recording was done at CORNER PRINTING's studio in Toda Park.The album features mid-tempo hardcore reinterpretations of anarcho-punk/metal crust styles that go back to the band's roots with sludgecore-like BPMs, black metal-influenced reverb-enhanced vocals, and a total listening experience with songs influenced by post-punk, shoegaze, and later sound treatments that have never been heard before. The album is a compilation of songs influenced by post-punk, shoegaze, and other sound processing styles that have never been heard before, in a form that allows the listener to hear the total sound. The mixing and mastering were done not in the peppy style of so-called "extreme music," but with Otsuka, seeking a rich saltiness that can be digested by the listener over a long period of time. The title "Ashes Asylum" is an arrangement for the "GRAYASLUM" live project organized by ZENOCIDE, but it was created from the image of "gray," a gray zone that is neither black nor white, symbolizing the difficulty in categorizing ZENOCIDE's music and activity style, to the "ashes" that remain after everything has been burned away. The motif of "ashes" that still remain after everything has been burned to the ground. It is also a metaphor for the world itself, an "ashen epileptic asylum or sanctuary" where the carnage still continues in various parts of the world.
