Quiño, one of the leading singer/songwriters in contemporary MPB, has changed his name to "Quiñones" and released a new album! Inspired by his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Quiñones' new album is a masterpiece with a Brazilian sound reminiscent of Marcos Valli and Lincoln Oliveti. The four bonus tracks included on the Japanese edition are also superb. The previous album, "Canta Marina Lima" ('18), covered Marina Lima, a Brazilian pop singer who dominated the 80's. This album is a great masterpiece with a Brazilian sound reminiscent of Rincoln Oliveti and others. It was released at the same time as "Onda De Amor: Synthesized Brazilian Hits That Never Were (1984-94)," a compilation of synth boogie and synth pop from Brazil, supervised by Soundway. The new album "Centelha" is released by Quiñones under the new name of Quiñones. The producer is Alberto Continentino, one of Rio's leading bass players.After the introduction, the neo-soul-like "Cidade Narciso" immediately catches the audience by surprise, followed by "O Rio Continua Rindo," an 80's sound reminiscent of the work of the famous Brazilian disco producer Rincoln Olivetc. The name of the song, which is a one-letter change of the famous phrase, also makes one grin. The female singer Bebe guests on "A'gua Salgada," which also features the impressive sound of a wurlitzer. The mellowness of the song is so strong that one might believe it to be the work of Marcos Valli or Azimuth. After "Sweet Narciso II," the second half of the album gradually gets deeper and deeper, and the flow is really good. The Japanese edition of the album includes four additional tracks from the EP "Gota," which was released in advance as a prototype for this album. The song "Parafuso," produced by Lourenço Heveches and mixed by Russell Eleverde (Erykah Badu, D'Angelo, etc.), is a dreamy masterpiece!
