Mental Abstrait is a jazzy hip-hop band from São Paulo, Brazil, whose debut album in 2010 was well received by many fans of hip-hop, club jazz, and more. Their long-awaited new album is a powerful work co-produced over the course of a year in 2021 with Lou Pienza, an MC who has been active on the world stage with no borders! As they themselves describe it, it is "a brand new album that translates the essence of contemporary urban music from Cuba, Brazil, Canada, and France," presenting a new sound that blends hip-hop and neo-soul with their roots music of Brazil and Cuban music. The album features singers such as Eme Alfonso and Daime Arocena, who represent the contemporary Cuban music scene, and up-and-coming Brazilian soul SSW Fabrissio. In addition, mastering was done by Grammy Award-winning sound engineer Bob Power, who has worked on masterpieces by The Roots, D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, and others.It is a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that is a high-level encounter between the essence of jazz, which Brazilian and Cuban music share in common, and their roots in hip-hop and other black music.
