The young pianist Julius Azar's DG debut album, acclaimed by Menahem Pressler, "Julius Azar's piano playing was astonishing. How did he find that unique sound? It was as if the instrument was teaching him its secrets."-Menahem PresslerIn 1997, pianist Julius Azar was born the eldest son of a musical family in the Taunus Mountains near Frankfurt, Germany. Self-taught in piano and improvisation from an early age, he later attended the Hans Eisler School of Music and the Kronberg Academy. He has won prizes at numerous competitions, including the Mendelssohn International Piano Competition, and is currently an up-and-coming young pianist who has been invited to perform at prestigious concert halls such as the Wigmore Hall in London, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Reisshalle in Hamburg, and the Suntory Hall in Tokyo, etc. In 2023 he will be invited to perform at the Deutsche This is Azar's debut album with Deutsche Grammophon (DG). The works selected are those of Scriabin, a Russian composer who expressed mysticism, and Scarlatti, an Italian composer known for his 555 keyboard sonatas.The two composers are represented as travelers in time and space, past, present, and future, and the Quasi niente section of the last movement of Scriabin's sonata (Funeral March) is positioned as the opening and closing piece of the program, along with two TRANSITION pieces of his own compositions that connect the pieces.
