ECM, which will celebrate its 55th anniversary in 2024, adds a noteworthy young new addition to its renowned lineup of solo piano albums!He made his solo debut in 2017 with the album "I Asked You a Question" with guest appearance by Kurt Rosenwinkel, followed the next year by " New Places Always" and "Lemon the Moon" in 2019. This is the long-awaited ECM solo debut album from Nitai Hershkovitz, a highly sought-after pianist who also plays in his own separate project, Imajin, and the Israeli super-unit Apifera. This ECM-like work expresses Nitai's powerful pianistic ingenuity, mainly in improvised solo settings. Nitai's improvisations unfold like a piece of music being created in real time: "It's like playing with several periods of music at once, but in an augmented reality environment," Nitai comments. For me, the album is like a journey where you can have different experiences in the blink of an eye. Like jumping through frames with different pictures, or looking through the window of a different world." The album is dedicated to Susan Cohen, Nitai's piano teacher in Jerusalem. But Nitai's influences range from working in a jazz context and exploring cutting-edge contemporary music to a background in classical music.The perfect balance of idioms creates a rich palette of colors and timbres explored by the pianist, who has successfully created his own voice as an improviser and shape designer, and who has drawn from Chick Corea, Russian composer Rachmaninoff, Scriabin, and other seemingly disparate He states that seemingly disparate inspirations guided him.
