[Kemp Masterpieces 1000] Wilhelm Kemp (1895-1991) was a German pianist who excelled at classical and romantic repertoire such as Beethoven, Brahms, and Bach. To commemorate the 30th anniversary of his death, an encore pressing of the "Kemp Masterpieces 1000" series. For Kemp, Bach was important in a different way from Beethoven. His grandfather, father, and brother were all church organists and music directors, and from his youth he was strongly influenced by Bach's music, especially his organ pieces and cantatas. In fact, he performed not only as a pianist but also as an organist in his youth, and the depth of knowledge of Bach that he had cultivated in his 95 years of life blossomed in the recordings of his later years. Kemp's Bach transcends technique and exaggeration, and is filled with a spirit of boundless piety and nobility, and the clarity of each note is deeply impressive and unique.
