Celebrating 75 Years of Musical Career! Sadao Watanabe, the living legend who continues to perform on stage as an active saxophonist, returns with his long-awaited studio album—his first in two years! This highly anticipated new album comes from a living legend who continues to perform live across the country at a pace of about 70 shows a year, remaining active on stage as a top-tier saxophonist. It is the follow-up studio recording to his previous album, *PEACE*, released in 2024, which was nominated for the MUSICAWARDJAPAN 2025 Best Jazz Album and received high acclaim both domestically and internationally. The album opens with the title track “BUT BEAUTIFUL,” composed by Jimmy Van Heusen and made famous by Frank Sinatra, followed by Cole Porter’s “EVERY TIME WE SAY GOODBYE,” "YOU BETTER GO NOW" by Robert Graham, and of course Watanabe’s own compositions "REMEMBRANCE" and "SIMPATICO," the album features a total of 11 tracks centered around ballads. Like the musicians who participated in *PEACE*, the lineup includes Russell Ferrante (p), keyboardist for the popular fusion band the Yellow Jackets, Ben Williams (b)—who won the Monk Competition and, after performing with Pat Metheny, Wynton Marsalis, and Jose James, is hailed as one of the most important bassists on the contemporary jazz scene—and Kazutetsu Takemura (ds), the drummer of Watanabe’s regular Japanese quartet whom he trusts implicitly, form an ironclad quartet for this recording.
