Vivaldi’s Unfinished Opera *Chastity Triumphs Over Love and Hate*, performed by Diego Fasolis & I Baroccisti! This important recording, made in 2011 after years of research finally made a performance feasible, is now available on CD! Diego Fasolis & I Barockisti’s 2011 recording of Vivaldi’s unfinished opera *La Virtù che Trionfa sul Vizio* (Chastity Triumphs Over Love and Hate). *La Virtù che Trionfa sul Vizio* was a huge success at its 1716 premiere and was repeatedly revived thereafter, but it is now a “phantom work” as all of the autograph scores have been lost. Since the 2000s, as research on Vivaldi’s operas and the discovery and cataloging of manuscripts have progressed rapidly, the reevaluation of “lost operas” has intensified, and fragments of this opera have been discovered in various locations, leading to ongoing research. Then, in 2011, the project finally reached a stage where a performance became feasible, and a recording was realized through a joint project with RSI (Radio Svizzera Italiana). It is now finally being released on CD. Rather than reconstructing the opera’s complete form, the composition takes the form of a “pastiche opera,” emphasizing Vivaldi’s aesthetic during this period—when his creative output was at its peak—while supplementing the score with arias drawn from his other works. This disc features an exceptionally stellar lineup—Vivaldi experts Diego Fasolis and I Barrocchisti, along with mezzo-sopranos Romina Basso and Ann Hålenberg—and serves as a valuable record of the pioneering efforts undertaken during the course of Vivaldi research.
