A new recording by Ciprian Katsaris, the “magician of the piano” renowned for his virtuosic technique, has been released by the National Chopin Institute (NIFC) in Poland! Stanisław Leszczyński, Deputy Director of the NIFC and Artistic Director of the “Chopin and His Europe International Music Festival,” was so captivated by Katsaris’s playing that he invited him to perform at the concert commemorating the 200th anniversary of Stanisław Moniuszko’s birth on May 5, 2019. Katsaris, who coincidentally shares the same birthday (May 5), gladly accepted the invitation, This album was recorded in advance of that concert. Moniuszko, known as the “Father of Polish Opera,” wrote numerous operas, operettas, masses, and art songs, but his piano works are limited. This album features Moniuszko’s few piano pieces, mazurkas from two of his famous operas (“Halka” and “The Haunted Manor”) arranged by the composer himself, and piano transcriptions of operas and art songs by various composers.
