Description:

Fitelberg Concertos and Symphonies World premiere recording! Here comes a must-hear secret for fans of modern symphonic works and Polish music. Grzegorz Fitelberg (1879-1953) was one of the leading Polish conductors of the first half of the 20th century. He made a great contribution to the history of Polish music by enthusiastically introducing the works of Szymanowski and Karłowicz, who were his classmates at the Warsaw Conservatory, and by premiering works by Lutoslawski and other young composers. Although his achievements as a conductor are often hidden, he studied composition under Noskowski and left behind more than 20 works. The style of the "Young Polish" school, which was promoted by his friend Szymanowski and others, is clearly based on the philosophy of "establishing new Polish music, especially symphonic works, by adopting the latest European techniques without being bound by tradition," and is characterized by Wagnerian chromatic scales and Richard Strauss-like high voltage orchestration. The three works are now available in the latest recordings. The Violin Concerto and Symphony No. 2 have been faithfully restored in Fiterberg's style by 2003-born composer Juszef Domjau from drafts in the Warsaw University Library. The Violin Concerto was written in 1902, at the ambitious age of 23.Fittelberg, who was also a violin virtuoso, started the piece with the intention of playing it himself. He wrote the first two movements, but left the pen after 69 bars of the last movement, and it was never performed or published. In addition to the lyrical melodies and the skillful execution of the solo part, the orchestration is matured to an extent that one would not expect from a young man of 23. This is a new Polish violin concerto after Wieniawski and Szymanowski. The Symphony No. 2 was composed between 1906 and 1914, and was first performed in 1910, but only the woodwind and string parts have survived; the brass, percussion, and harp parts were reconstructed.Stylistically, it is on the border between late Romanticism and modernity, and is characterized by the influence of Mahler and Richard Strauss as well as the rhythm and intonation unique to Poland, making it full of drama and highly enjoyable to listen to. The "Polish Rhapsody" from 1909 is a masterpiece that demonstrates the composer's ability to combine nationalism and modern diction, yet it is little known. The mazurka's high tide but not its hand-me-down optimism shows the Polish aesthetic of the time. Fiterberg knows and sounds the orchestra's functions and effects better than any of his peers, and fans of Mahler and Richard Strauss' music are sure to love it. Wojciech Niedzka, solo violinist, was born in Warsaw in 2003. He is a promising young violinist who studied with Rainer Schmidt at the Basel Conservatory and made his debut in 2024 with an album of concertos by Wieniawski and Noskowski, which attracted a great deal of attention. Conductor Zygmunt Richert was born in 1947. He was an opera conductor at the Gdansk and Bydgoszcz opera houses. The narrative narration of the three recorded works is exquisitely convincing.
