To commemorate the start of the Klanglogo label, we are pleased to present a new Brahms cycle by Howard Griffiths, the famous British conductor who has made numerous recordings of Brahms, and the Frankfurt Brandenburg State Orchestra, of which he was the general music director. The two Brahms cycles by Howard Griffiths and the Frankfurt-Brandenburg State Orchestra, of which he was the general music director, will be released in Japan with Japanese commentary. Howard Griffiths was born in England in 1950. A graduate of the Royal College of Music in London, he has conducted top orchestras around the world and has released more than 100 discs on various labels. The Frankfurt Brandenburg State Orchestra (based not in Frankfurt am Main in Hesse, but in Frankfurt an der Oder in Brandenburg near the Polish border), of which Griffiths was the general music director from the 2007/08 season until 2018, was conducted by Takao Ukigaya The orchestra has been steadily gaining fans in Japan, as evidenced by its successful tours of Japan under the direction of Takao Ukigaya.In recording this great work, which is inevitable for German orchestras, Griffiths collected and thoroughly researched as much material as possible from the estate of Fritz Steinbach (1855-1916), a 19th century conductor who also served as music director of the Meiningen Court Orchestra. Following the traces left by Steinbach, who was recognized by Brahms himself as the best interpreter of Brahms' music, we have attempted to reproduce the performance style of Brahms at the time of his death, down to the smallest details such as tempo setting and phrasing. The orchestra also responds to Griffiths' demands with a high standard of performance, finding a new answer to a masterpiece that has been performed countless times. Tokyo M-Plus
