Description:
Belmonte, a Spanish aristocrat, comes to Selim's mansion, where she is imprisoned in the palace, to search for and rescue his fiancee Konstance, who has been kidnapped by pirates and sold to Selim, the Turkish governor. However, she is disappointed when Osmin, the guard, turns her away without a word. Then she meets Pedrillo, the servant who was taken prisoner with Constanze, and they make a plan to rescue her again. Konstance, on the other hand, does not accept Selim's courtship, but thinks of Belmonte every day. Her maid, Blonde, also rejects Osmin's aggressive courtship, and the two are heartbroken. How will Belmonte rescue her? This new production of "Abduction from the Hermitage" is directed by David McVicar, one of the hottest opera directors in the world today. The play has already been performed many times and has also gained a steady following in concert form and as a moving production to the Proms. The singers are well prepared, including Koehler's physically beautiful performance as Osmin, Matthews' Konstanze, and Montovidas' taut tenor.The orchestra is the Age of Enlightenment Orchestra, which is composed of period instruments, and the music is very light, with lots of improvisational phrases and Turkish sounds that were popular at the time.
