Description:
The Cologne Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Christoph Poppen, performs the complete Mozart masses for NAXOS. For this fourth collection, the choir has replaced the West German Radio Choir of Cologne with the Cologne Cathedral Vocal Ensemble, which was founded in 1996. The album includes three pieces composed by Mozart as a teenager: K. 140, which is estimated to have been composed in 1773, was once considered a forgery, but the latest research shows that it is a genuine work, known as the Pastoral Mass due to its gloria in 6/8 time; K. 66, which was composed in 1769; and K. 145, which was composed in 1770. . 66 is a work from 1769. It is a solemn mass performed by Mozart's childhood friend on the occasion of his appointment as a new priest, and is characterized by its large-scale orchestration and dramatic progression. The K.192 from 1774 shows glimpses of Joseph and Michael Haydn's influence as well as skillful counterpoint. It is characterized by a concise but richly expressive writing style. Naxos Japan
