Description:

Saint-Georges was born in Guadeloupe, a French territory in the Caribbean Sea. With a brown complexion due to his mother's African descent, he defied prejudice and became an outstanding swordsman, athlete, violin virtuoso, and composer in late 18th century France. The string quartets on this album are not a competition for each player's skill, but rather an ensemble of musicians who pursue the beauty of tone and a rich lyricism, creating a stir in a genre that was still in its infancy in France.
