Description:
Born in 1945, Robert Docker is an English light music composer and pianist. He has also arranged various works for orchestra as an arranger. Born into a working family in Paddington, he studied viola, piano, and composition at the Royal Academy of Music with the help of a London Assembly scholarship. He served in World War II as a sergeant in the Rifle Corps, then married and lived in Suffolk, where he composed and appeared in many concerts and television programs during the last two decades of his life. His masterpiece "Legend" for piano and orchestra and "Bastille Variations," each written in a different style, were as popular during his lifetime as Addinsell's "Warsaw Concerto. The "Tabarrinage," with its witty melody, also showcases Docker's excellent orchestration. Three Contrasts for Oboe and Strings" is a collection of three concerto-style pieces written over a five-year period for Linden Harris, principal conductor of the BBC Concert Orchestra. The Soul of Cumbria is an arrangement of four traditional Welsh melodies.Here again, Docker's talent as an arranger is strongly demonstrated. Naxos Japan
