Description:
Giltburg's complete Beethoven piano sonatas, released last fall, were highly acclaimed, including a special selection in "Record Geijutsu" (Recorded Arts). This is the second volume of the complete piano concerto collection that he has been working on in parallel with the Beethoven sonatas. This time, the popular No. 5 "Emperor" makes its debut. Once again, Giltburg has given the work much thought (the booklet contains a detailed discussion), and his performance is youthful and energetic, colored by his own unique interpretation. The accompanying recording is the "No. 0" in E-flat major, the same key as the "Emperor". Beethoven was 13 years old. Since most of the orchestral parts were lost, there have been attempts to perform the work with reconstructions, but Giltburg played only the surviving solo parts. The thick sound of Giltburg's favorite Fazioli piano is also a must-hear. Giltburg's brilliant performance of No. 5 is backed up by the up-and-coming conductor Vasily Petrenko and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, just as they did in their previous performances of Nos. 1 and 2.
