Description:
The Scarlatti family of composers was immensely famous in Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. The 555 exercises written by Domenico, son of the great Alessandro, for Princess Lia Magdalena Barbara are now familiarly known as "sonatas," and although most of them are short, single-movement pieces, they are rich in variety and are a joy to listen to. The ongoing series of recordings of Scarlatti's complete sonatas on NAXOS features one pianist at a time (and sometimes more than one album), adding color and variety to the performances. The pianist in charge of the 17th album is the young Sean Kennard, who was born in 1984 and won a prize at the 2004 Sendai International Piano Competition. Recorded in 2015. (C)RS
