Composer Havergal Bryan (1876-1972) is known for writing many tremendous symphonies. This time, a new recording of his symphonies has been eagerly awaited. He wrote 32 symphonies during his lifetime, but more than 27 of them were written between the ages of 72 and 92. The three symphonies in this collection were written between the ages of 88 and 89, and although compact in size, they are intensely original. The three symphonies are so closely related that they may be considered as "one symphony" together. For a change, the "England Suite," which was his breakthrough work, was influenced by Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker" Suite, and is a fascinating piece of music that encapsulates the English landscape in sound, but it is also interesting to note that Brian's already unprecedented temperament is well represented in this work.
