Studied under Franck and Vidor, and left behind many organ pieces. Despite being nearly blind, Vierne (1870-1937) was the organist of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, and collapsed on the podium during his 1,750th concert, dying at the age of 67. He wrote not only organ pieces but also charming songs. These "love poems," three or four in each, are arranged according to the four seasons of the French Revolution. It is a somewhat decadent and beautiful collection of songs, in which man is nothing but a helpless being before the great workings of nature. ...... Naxos Japan
