Many of you may have heard Richard Strauss' (1864-1949) "The Knight of Roses," but you may not have reached "The Shadowless Woman" until now. And when it comes to "The Legend of Joseph," a hidden lost work from the middle period, they are not even aware that such a work existed. The "Legend of Joseph," a hidden lost work of the middle period, is only recognized as a "mere" work. The "Shadowless Woman," written with Mozart's "The Magic Flute" in mind, is a work full of fantasy, weaving back and forth between the magical world and the human world, and the orchestral writing is naturally elaborate and full of wonderful sounds that are both magnificent and transparent. On the other hand, "The Legend of Joseph" is an hour-long ballet music written at the request of Diaghilev. Strauss newly extracted about one-third of the music from it and sublimated it into this fascinating work. These will be performed by Joanne Falletta, NAXOS' promising female conductor.Although the roar of the brass instruments in the "Knight of Roses" Suite is a little unsatisfactory, the thick sound of "The Shadowless Woman" and the chamber music-like transparent tone of "The Legend of Joseph" as if in opposition to it are unspeakably satisfying. ［Comment courtesy of Naxos Japan.
