Description:
The overture to this "A Summer Night's Dream" was first composed in 1826. It was first written as a piano overture for the 17-year-old Mendelssohn (1809-1947) to enjoy with his sister, and was soon arranged into an orchestral version. Sixteen years later, the overture inspired King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia to write the "Incidental Music to a Summer Night's Dream" by order of the king. Today it is customary for the overture to be reused and performed together. However, the melodramatic part he added is often omitted, and this is a failure in understanding the whole piece. In this disc, however, all the melodramatic parts are performed properly (in English). Please reenact Shakespeare's fairy tale in your mind. Naxos Japan
