Composer John D. Gottsch spent his youth in Florida. The lush nature of this land of many lakes inspired his love of nature and greatly influenced his later works. Sunset" is a work of brilliant brushwork reminiscent of film music that depicts Florida's natural abundance. It is an impressive piece of music that also alludes to the threats posed by nature, including its vulnerability to climate change. Queen Yulievskaya" is a work of stark contrast. This thrilling suite tells the story of the first meeting between the 12th Romanov emperor Alexander II and Ekaterina Dolgorukova (Yuryevskaya), from their first encounter to the emperor's assassination. The music progresses with violin, cello, and harp melodies as the main characters and includes various incidents. The South Florida Symphony Orchestra, the composer's spiritual home, gives a full-bodied performance. Naxos Japan
