The highly popular series of works for wind band by the "King of Marches," Sousa, is now complete with this 23rd collection. Although Sousa standardized the march form as we know it today, he never devoted himself exclusively to this genre, writing more than 200 works, including symphonic poems, suites, operas, and operettas. In this final volume, a selection of Sousa's lesser-known works, including fantasies and humoresques that use familiar melodies from popular songs and classical works, showcase his wide-ranging musical tastes. Track 2, "Melody," is a popular Kreisler recording of a violin piece by Charles Dawes, who became the 30th Vice President of the United States.
