Description:
Reinecke, an orthodox German Romantic composer, is most famous for his flute sonata "Water Nymph," but lovers of German music will surely enjoy these three pieces. Pierce and Gallois share soloing and conducting duties in a unique performance that is also noteworthy. Carl Reinecke, who today is primarily remembered as an educator, pianist, and conductor of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, wrote a wide variety of works, including operas, vocal and choral works, three symphonies, and a somewhat famous piano concerto. The two concertos on this CD, reminiscent of the styles of Schumann and Mendelssohn, are characterized by melodic fluidity and colorful orchestration. The Flute Concerto in D major is a work of considerable virtuosity, and here we hear a fine performance by Patrick Gallois.Fabrice Pierre and Patrick Gallois were praised for their fresh and imaginative interpretations of Mozart's Concerto for Flute and Harp as "bouncy and engaging."
